What We Do

Literacy

Building strong readers. Creating lifelong learners.

Reading opens the door to opportunity as it is the foundation for all learning and a critical skill for success in school, career, and life.

CCEF works alongside our schools to ensure every student has the opportunity to become a confident, capable reader.

How we support literacy

We create opportunities for students to discover the joy of reading while building the skills they need to succeed. By providing access to high-interest books and encouraging reading beyond the classroom, we help students develop habits that last a lifetime.

Book-a-Palooza

Through Book-a-Palooza, students select books of their own to take home, many for the very first time. These book fair-style experiences empower students to choose stories that interest them, helping build personal libraries and a love of reading.

When students have access to books they enjoy, they are more likely to read outside of school, strengthening comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence.

Why access to books at home matters

Research shows that access to books at home plays a powerful role in student success. In fact, having as few as 20 books in the home can have a greater impact on student achievement than a parent’s education level or socioeconomic status.

For many students, access to books outside of school is limited. By helping students build personal libraries, we’re not just providing books—we’re creating opportunities for growth, confidence, and long-term success.

The impact of literacy

  • Over 50,500 books placed into the hands of students
  • 14,500 students building home libraries
  • Increased excitement and confidence around reading

Students who have access to books are more likely to read outside of school and develop stronger literacy skills.

Why literacy matters

Strong reading skills are linked to academic success, graduation rates, and long-term opportunity. Students who read regularly build stronger communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills—essential for success in any path they choose.

By investing in literacy, we’re investing in the future of our students and our community.

Help us put books in students’ hands

Not every student has access to books at home—but together, we can change that. Your support helps ensure every child has the opportunity to read, learn, and succeed.
