Where are you from? Where did you study?
I’m originally from a small town- Cheverly, Maryland - just outside of Washington, DC.I moved south to attend Appalachian State, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and my master’s degree in Instructional Technology. I’m getting ready to start at UNCC to earn my add-on certificate for School Administration.
Have you always wanted to teach?
I think so. I took a few detours along the way and tried a few different majors in college, but I think I was always meant to be a teacher.
Who were you most influenced by and why?
My parents. They’ve always encouraged me and made me feel like I could do anything. I hope that I’m now doing that for some of my students.
What do you individualize your teaching?
I try to get to know my students on a personal level and then create learning opportunities for them based on their personal needs and interests. This year, we also started something called Genius Hour, which allows students the time to explore their interests. During Genius Hour, students could choose any subject to learn about. We had students working on projects about computer programing, hair styling, jewelry making, volcanoes, cooking and so much more! Students found a new passion for learning by studying something that they wanted.
What do you like best about Odell Elementary?
I'm new to Odell, but I'm excited to get to know the staff and students! At my previous schools, Coltrane-Webb and Beverly Hills, the staff and students have been amazing and I'm sure Odell will be no different!
What do you plan on doing over the summer?
Read a few books, visit the beach, and relax!
And last but not least...
If you could be an animal, what would you be?
A bird, so I can fly south in the winter and enjoy the warm weather.
